Foodify - Pizza!

This Foodify, pizza and Italian music, makes perfect sense but it goes a little deeper than that. Living at home has its pros and cons, a pro being that my parents still cook me dinner (!!!), a con being that I am a useless adult who doesn’t cook herself dinner. Because I am not in charge of the menu every night, and my dad LOVES to cook pizza, we eat pizza on the regular and by that I mean like 2 times a week. Also, every time we eat pizza, according to my dad, it is a must that we listen to the Passione soundtrack. This gets old real quick, especially since it has been over a year since he discovered the cd. Regardless, it was nice and appropriate at first so I advice you to try it! (just maybe not twice a week for a year..). I have no idea how my parents make their pizza but I know it includes homemade pizza sauce, store bought pizza dough and fresh mozzarella. You can purchase the mozzarella at a local deli and the dough at your supermarket or bakery but for the tomato sauce you can try out this recipe below.

And with the ending of another month comes another CTL playlist with some of the songs I've been jamming to this March. (If you watch Broad City, you will notice that I've been binge watching it recently as 57% of the songs are from the show.) Other songs were discovered on SNL (George Ezra's 3/28 performance), Hypemachine (Phoebe Ryan) and Purity Ring's new album, another eternity.

What did YOU listen to this month? Comment below with the songs you loved in March!

New Beginnings

With changes and new beginnings comes an array of mixed emotions. I am currently in the midst of a job switch and while I am pretty nervous, I’m SO excited. This playlist consists of songs that will sooth my nerves with familiar, comforting songs but also songs that will pump me up and make me feel ready for anything. Some of these songs helped me relax before the SATs (Metro Station's "Kelsey"), job interviews ("The Only Living Boy In New York," Simon & Garfunkel), bumpy airplane rides ("Stay Illogical" by Under The Influence of Giants) and the first day of college (The White Stripes' "Blue Orchid).

While this list was created with the intention of preparing me for my first day, it can really be translated to anyone’s new beginning whatever it may be. Here’s to my first day.. wish me luck!

#FBF Spring Break: Miami

#tbt (but really Flash Back Friday because I missed Thursday) to when I was in Miami this time 2 years ago :( I guess I’m past the days when spring break was a thing because, ya know.. jobs. Missing the sun and the pool and the clubs and the beach but most importantly, the music. Check out the playlist I created with songs I added before and after my Miami trip. This playlist is perfect for anyone in Miami, going to Miami, on spring break in general or pretending they are on spring break (aka me).

As you can tell from this week's cover photo, I'm over winter and the cold, as is everyone I'm sure. With another winter month down, spring is on the horizon.. HALLELUJAH. Before we leave February in the dust, here is a playlist of the songs I've been listening to for the second half of the month.

This playlist is a mix of new songs and songs I recently re-discovered. Favorites on the list: Nicki Minaj's "Truffle Butter," "Dystopia (The Earth Is On Fire)" by YACHT and "Lost Stars" by Adam Levine (kind of lame, I know, but I re-fell in love with it after seeing his performance at the Oscars).

PSA: if you haven't already googled 'Truffle Butter,' DON'T. I'm still gagging... Also, Lil Wayne's rap in this song is the most amazing rap ever. A bit dirty for my little ears but it is so, so good.

What songs were you obsessed with in February? Comment below!

Valentine's Day Playlist <3

Some people LOVE Vday while others despise it, but whether or I was single or in a relationship, I've always been pretty neutral about the holiday. Getting chocolates and mugs from my mom as a kid and surprise Dominoes deliveries from my parents in college or going to the movies to see romantic comedies with friends was equally as awesome as having a candlelight dinner with a boyfriend. With any situation I advise you to just embrace the day, whether with your bae, family, friends or alone.

No matter who you are spending your Valentine's Day with, or what you are doing, spend the day of love listening to these songs of love...

Grammy Rant

Some have already moved on from last Sunday's Grammy Awards but looking at the length of this post, I clearly haven't...

Beck & Kanye

When Prince announced Beck as the Album of the Year winner, I was both shocked and excited. I honestly didn't expect that at all, as most people didn't; I was even surprised to see that he was nominated. But I wasn't only excited that Beck won (really like Morning Phase but not sure I would call it MY fave of the year), I was mostly excited that they're moving past picking the most popular artists and actually looking at who's the most talented. The Grammys, and most award shows in general, have a history of picking the same people over and over for their awards, aka the most popular. I was pleasantly surprised with last year's picks (Daft Punk, Lorde, etc.) and this year's, it looks as if they are actually considering talent when picking winners now. I knew other viewers were probably shocked as well, but the reaction it got was unexpected, even besides Kanye's.

People on my social media news feeds complained about how other artists (Ed Sheeran, Beyonce..) got jipped but like, DID YOU LISTEN TO BECK'S ALBUM? That's really all I want to know. Don't judge before you listen, people.

I'm usually one to defend Kanye but he's bein' stupid!!! You're not the king of awards, you don't get to decide if someone should give their (well deserved) award to someone else. His comments right after the show, his comments after that.. ugh, you're making it really hard to like you, Kanye. Also, hearing Kim and Khloe Kardashian's "you should have done it" comments talking about how Kanye should have gone on stage...

Beck made Kanye look even worse with his humble and gracious response.

Kanye's post-Grammy comments...

"I don't know what he said, all I know is if the Grammys want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain't gonna play with them no more. 'Flawless,' Beyoncé video. Beck needs to respect artistry and he should have given his award to Beyoncé, and at this point, we tired of it," 'Ye began to say with his usual intensity."
"By the way, I got my wife, my daughter and my clothing line, so I'm not going to do nothing to put my daughter at risk but I am here to fight for creativity. That's the reason why I didn't say anything tonight."

...his clothing line? smh

Kanye West Goes Off on Beck's Grammy Win: "He Should Have Given His Award To Beyonce"

I obviously don't agree with Kanye's comment but this is interesting to read/watch...

All The Times Kanye West Gave His Own Awards To Someone Else

And then Beck's comments...

"I was just so excited he was coming up. He deserves to be on stage as much as anybody.. How many great records has he put out in the last five years right?"
On Kanye saying he should respect true artistry.. "You can't please everybody, man.. I still love him and think he's genius. I aspire to do what he does."

Beck Responds to Kanye West's Shade, Still Thinks "He's a Genius" Despite Diss

Beck handled that PERFECTLY. Kill 'em with kindness, that's what I always say..

I'm happy for Beck and happy for music. This is a stretch, but maybe the same 10 artists won't make all of the money in the music industry one day, maybe there will be a spread of wealth, especially to the most talented?

P.S. I guess after realizing how ridiculous and rude he was, Kanye recently went back on his comments towards Beck. I still haven't forgotten his initial reaction, though.

Side Notes

Besides Album of the Year drama, Sam Smith was the real focus of the night - he won 4 Grammys and performed probably the best performance of the night. He was amazing and I am obsessed. Although, the fact that he won awards for a song that caused some controversy (he possibly plagiarized Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down") took away a little from the moment, I still love Sam Smith and can't seem to hold that against him.

The show was jam packed with performances, has it always been that way? Loads of performances and very few awards? Don't remember that being the case.. but it was a little overwhelming.

Well, that's I'll I got. What did you think about this year's Grammys? Comment below!

Oh, and listen to the Album of the Year below..

You guy know the drill... Here are the songs I've been listening to since the start of January. This playlist includes a current favorite: "Mourning Doves" by Mikky Ekko. I'm a sucker for anything Mikky Ekko, because, that voice... If you don't know who he is, you may recognize him from the male vocals in Rhianna's "Stay With Me." Also featured- Childish Gambino, Purity Ring, Cold War Kids and more. If you're in the need for new music, these songs can definitely fix that problem.

Unwrap Style Playlist

I find myself in Forever 21 quite a lot because it's both cheap and trendy. But Every time I'm there I find myself shazaming more often than actually looking for clothes. Lucky for me, Forever 21 created a Spotify playlist featuring the songs they have on rotation at their stores... so obviously that's all I've been listening to for the past week. While most songs I just listen to in the background of what I'm doing, some have made onto my personal rotation because they are THAT good. Forever's playlist curators know what they are doing. Give the playlist a spin, it consists of 10 hours of really fun songs that'll make you feel like... shopping.
