(Re)Introducing Damien Rice

This week’s #tbt is a throw back as well as in introduction for those who aren’t familiar with Damien Rice. I think he has been incredibly underrated and although he is pretty popular and well known there are still many out there that are unaware of his existence and amazing music.

I first heard Damien Rice when he came out with his first CD, O in 2003. My dad had just purchased it and was playing it on our way home from a summer at the beach. The sad, emotional songs were the perfect soundtrack to how I was feeling leaving the summer behind. is one of those life changing albums. Ok, maybe I’m exaggerating but it’s an incredible CD. I never tire of it, every time I listen to it, it’s like I am listening to it for the first time.

The album is comprised of incredibly emotional and beautiful songs, some interlaced with a female vocalist. You can’t help but to feel exactly how Damien Rice was feeling, when listening to it.

I think one of the reasons this album was so revolutionary for me was because before then I mostly listened to the radio- top 40 and whatever else 12 year olds were listening to at the time. After listening to O I realized that there was more music out there to be discovered. It opened my eyes and lead me to other amazing music.

Even 10 years later it’s still amazing and different.  There are still very few songs or albums that I have heard since that make me feel the way does.

Similar music to Damien’s include- the Once Soundtrack, David Gray and Ed Sheeren. So if you are a fan of those you will definitely love Damien Rice. Let me know what you think!
